ADB and ARIS Discussed Cooperation Possibilities in the Field of Ecology and Water Supply
Bishkek, April 21, 2025 — Today, a meeting between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mission and the Community Development and Investment Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic (ARIS) has been held, which marked the beginning of new large-scale initiatives in the field of ecology, water supply and energy efficiency in Kyrgyzstan.
The key focus of the negotiations was preparation of a new solid waste management project SWEEP - a step towards a clean and sustainable future for the country.
ADB representatives were also informed about the progress in preparing the Green Transformation of Public Buildings Project, aimed at increasing energy efficiency and introducing green technologies in government agencies.
The other significant discussion was related to two new water supply projects, the total cost of which exceeds US$ 184 million:
- US$ 100 mln to be allocated to provide clean drinking water to 80 villages in the Zhalalabad Region;
- $84 mln - for sustainable water supply to 64 villages in Osh, Chui and Zhalalabad Regions.
The ADB mission included the following specialists:
- Jinmin Huang, Director of the Water Supply and Urban Development Department for East, Central and West Asia,
- Gia Heeyoung Hong, Principal Urban Development Specialist, East, Central West Asia Team
- Lizhong Zhou, Consultant Team Leader,
- as well as other members of the ADB team.
The following staff participated from the ARIS side:
- Mars Naspekov, Executive Director,
- Asel Mambetkulova, Deputy Executive Director,
- Baktybek Stalbek uulu, Financial Manager,
- as well as coordinators and specialists of existing projects.
The importance of cooperation was especially emphasized by Jinmin Huang, Director of the Water Supply and Urban Development Department for East, Central and West Asia, who noted: “ARIS is a strategic partner in implementation of ADB projects. We are highly appreciating our joint work and sure that further cooperation will bring significant results for the people of Kyrgyzstan.” The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere and became an important step towards implementation of new initiatives aimed at sustainable development and improving living conditions within the country.
