REDP: The opening ceremony of the sports complex named after Z. Ormonov took place in Uzgen
Uzgen, Osh region - August 23, 2025. The grand opening of a new sports complex named after Z. Ormonov took place in the city of Uzgen.
The sports facility was built as part of the “Regional Economic Development Project” (RED), financed by the World Bank, and implemented by the Community Development and Investment Agency (ARIS).
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, President of the Kyrgyz Football Association K.K. Tashiev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Osh region E.N. Dzhantaev, World Bank representative T. Zhukusheva, and ARIS Executive Director M.D. Naspekov. Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic and other officials were also present at the opening.
During his presentation, M.D. Naspekov introduced the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers K.K. Tashiev the results of the project implementation in the city of Uzgen. He noted that within the framework of the RED, the key areas of city development included the reconstruction of the Uzgen minaret as a monument of historical and archaeological heritage, the modernization of the city stadium, the improvement of two parks, and the construction of a unique pedestrian bridge. To date, the construction of the sports complex named after Z. Ormonov and the improvement of one of the city parks have been completed, and work on the construction of a pedestrian bridge is also entering the final stage.
In his speech, K.K. Tashiev emphasized the significance of the event:
“Today, another significant object is opening in the sports history of Kyrgyzstan. The new complex will provide an opportunity for all children, youth, and professional teams to realize their potential. Our main goal is to create and improve conditions in which young people will play sports, and professional teams will be able to prepare for competitions. This modern complex will serve precisely these purposes.”
In honor of the solemn event, a festive program was organized: a concert, as well as a match of the 18th round of the Premier League between the OshMU and Ozgon teams. The opening of the sports complex attracted more than 5,000 spectators.
The opening of the sports complex named after Z. Ormonov became a significant event not only for the residents of Uzgen but also for the entire Osh region. The new facility is intended to become a center of attraction for young people, a place for sports achievements and a symbol of the progressive development of the region.
