Project training: How to ensure sustainability and reliability of water supply and sanitation systems
Training in sustainable operation of water supply and sanitation systems took place on August 15, 2025 in Osh organized by the Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Project.
The training gathered representatives of contractors, field staff and specialists involved in four project components i.e. water supply investment, sanitation development, institutional strengthening and environmental/social safeguards.
The training agenda was extensive and exercise-oriented. The trainees discussed
• quality of works and commissioning procedure;
• Sanitation and hygiene development in project communities, enhancing access to basic sanitation services for children;
• Key aspects of operation and sustainability of water supply schemes;
• environmental and social safeguards, mitigation of risks of potential environmental impact;
• occupational safety and health of workers / contractors.
A separate session was delivered by specialists of the Red Crescent. The trainees received new knowledge and exercised in basic first aid practices. All participants gained new practices and affirmed skills that can rescue lives in emergency cases.
Likewise, focus was made on practical matters from supervision of the quality of works to promotion of hygiene practices in schools and kindergartens.
During open discussion the participants could exchange their experiences, ask questions and discuss prospects for introduction of innovative approaches to rural water supply and sanitation.
Finally, trainees noted on practical value of the training and expressed willingness to apply new skills and knowledge at work.
