Asian Development Bank is Going to Allocate Additional Financing to Expand the Naryn Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Program

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov signed the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Ratification of the Loan and Grant Agreements between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Asian Development Bank for the Project "Naryn Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Program - Additional Financing" that were signed on November 4, 2024 in Bishkek.

Based on the results of the original Program, the Asian Development Bank and the Kyrgyz Republic are providing additional financing in the amount of US$ 38.8 million, including:

US$ 27.0 mln - ADB Loan;

US$ 5.35 mln - ADB Grant;

US$ 6.45 mln - co-financing by the Kyrgyz Republic.

The additional financing will allow to carry out civil works in 23 villages of the Naryn region.

Under the original existing Program implemented by the Community Development and Investment Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic (ARIS), the detailed design and cost estimation documentation (DED) was developed for 43 villages in Naryn Region, the water supply systems have been already constructed and put into operation in 6 villages, and civil works are ongoing in 14 villages. The Program is aimed at improving the access to safe drinking water and sanitation for the rural population in the Naryn Region.

If under the original Program, more than 64 thousand residents of the Naryn Region receive the access to safe drinking water, then considering the additional funding, this figure will increase up to 103 thousand people. Moreover, a significant improvement of sanitary conditions in social institutions in 43 villages of the region is expected.

The Naryn Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Program is an important step towards ensuring decent living conditions for the rural population in the Naryn Region, improving health and sanitation, as well as sustainable development of the regions in the country.
