Climate and water in focus of international dialogue: Second AAWC Round Table in Bishkek

 

July 30, 2025 Bishkek. The Second Climate and Water Round Table was conducted successfully with the support from the Asia National Assembly Water Consultative Board (AAWC) inviting Asia Water Council.

The event convened key officials of parliaments, government institutions, international organizations and lead Asian water enterprises to discuss climate challenges and sustainable water management. The meeting was attended by the AAWC President H.E. Han Jeong-ae.

The Kyrgyz Republic at this high-level meeting was represented by

• Bakyt Torobayev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers / Minister of Agriculture, Water resources and Processing Industry;

• Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament);

• D. Tolonov, Member of Parliament / AAWC Vice-President;

• The ARIS team included coordinators of water projects headed by executive Director Mars Naspekov.

At the round table, coordinator of the Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Project Korchubai uulu Erlan made a presentation on “Investment environment and development strategy in Kyrgyzstan” demonstrating the willingness for partnership and joint interventions.

Participants also included representatives of Korean public and private entities including K-Water, GGGI, KOICA, KRC, K-eco and companies that offered innovative water technologies.

Meetings conducted during the event:

• session on international projects and financing;

• discussion of initiatives and cooperation between countries;

• business meetings between Korean water companies and Kyrgyz republic’s officials.

The ARIS team also had a series of meetings with K-Water and other companies where they discussed opportunities for partnership and joint projects on water and climate.

Overall, the round table became a meaningful platform for international cooperation in the fields of sustainable water management and climate policies at the parliamentary and public levels.
